Statue of Gaspar Fructuoso, Portuguese priest, historian and humanist from the Azores. He wrote a famous 6-volume series of books about Portugal's island territories. He died in 1591.

Yet another, much smaller church. According to Wikipedia, there are 17 churches in Ribeira Grande, which has a population of just over 32,000 people. Another 4,000 live in the surrounding area.
