Roy's Ultimate Russian Aircraft CD-ROM
Buy the Beta Test Version
(U.S. and Canada only)
The Aviation Store

This twin-disc set will contain over 1,100 photos of Soviet/Russian aircraft, most never seen before in any book or on any Web site from Roy's private collection.  An additional 300 or so photos are included that have been seen on Roy's Russian Aircraft Resource previously, but all have been rescanned at the new size of a width of 640 pixels.  (Heights vary because of the nature of each photo.) Some photos have undergone extensive editing to remove distractions from the photo such as people or other equipment and aircraft or in order to repair damaged photos. Some photos have been "spliced" together from two in order to create one photo.

It is hoped these two CD-ROM discs will be available for sale at a very reasonable price.  The  price, including handling and First Class postage to the U.S. and Canada will be U.S. $45.00 for the 2-disc  set when it is released.

What you will find on the CD-ROM:

  • Over 1,500 photos of aircraft from at least 14 design bureaus of the former Soviet Union and Russia.
  • Rare video or unusual video.
  • Translations of several Soviet pilot's manual of aircraft from the Great Patriotic War, with the original illustrations, where available.
  • A full copy of U.S. Army Technical Manual 30-430, Handbook on U.S.S.R. Military Forces, from 1946, revised 1947, Chapter XI, Air Forces.
  • Excerpts from Air Force Pamphlet 200-21, Soviet Aerospace Handbook, May 1978.
  • Air Force Manual 50-13, Soviet Aircraft Recognition Guide from 1971 which has been sold on the Web for about $20.00.
  • Line drawings of rare Soviet designs by the late Geo. John Geiger.
  • Color drawings of Soviet designs by Hal Clifford.
  • A selection of high resolution photos for use on your computer desktop.
  • "Walk-around" photos of a large number of aircraft for the detail-minded enthusiast or modeler.
  • An extensive bibliography, with publication information, for those wishing to pursue the study of Soviet/Russian aircraft design further.  (There is no guarantee any of these books are for sale today.)
  • An explanation of the different designation systems used over the years.
  • An explanation of the Russian alphabet with pronunciation guide, done as a graphic so anyone may view it.

What you will need to view the whole CD-ROM:

  • A CD-ROM drive (of course!)  The higher speed, the better. There will be an option on the disc to allow you to copy it to your hard drive (if there is enough space), which speeds up access to the photos for users of slower, older CD-ROM drives.
  • A Web browser (the CD has been tested with Netscape 4.x and 6.x, Windows Internet Explorer 5.5 and 6.0 and Mozilla 1.4.  It is unknown if it will run in other browsers or older versions of those mentioned.)
  • Microsoft Windows 95 or above.  The disc has not been tested on other operating systems.
  • Java scripting enabled on the browser. Neither the disc nor the three example photos on the next page will work without Java enabled on the browser.
  • Pop-ups must be enabled.  If you use software that suppresses pop-ups, turn it off to use the disc.
  • If you can disable style sheets in your browser, they must be enabled.
  • A high-color monitor and graphics adapter, preferably set to a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels.  A resolution of 800 x 600 will work, but it will be difficult to maneuver around the disc and the photos will be too large for full enjoyment.

What you will need to view only the photos and/or video:

  • Any graphics viewer that displays JPEG and GIF images will do, but you will not enjoy all of the features of the disc without using a browser.
  • The JPEG graphics can be viewed on some, but not all, DVD players.
  • Any viewer capable of viewing AVI video.

NOTE:  None of the text is visible without a Web browser.

Buy the Beta Test Version -- Help Kill the Bugs

A Beta Version of Roy’s Ultimate Russian Aviation CD-ROM is now available for U.S. $30.00, which includes handling and postage, to residents of the U.S. and Canada.  Maryland residents must add an additional $1.50 as sales tax.  All sales are final.

The cost of your Beta Version will go toward the cost of the finalized version if you wish to purchase that version.  You are under no obligation to purchase the finalized version.  As I hope to sell the finalized, two-disc version for U.S. $45.00, this means it will cost those who purchase the Beta Test version only U.S. $15.00.  I will include a special “upgrade” serial number with the Beta Test disc which you will use to order the finalized version at the special price of U.S. $15.00 once the finalized version is announced.

For those outside of North America:  While I cannot sell the Beta Version to you at this time, I want to let you know that the price of U.S. $45.00 will NOT include shipping to your country.  When the finalized version is sold, shipping rates will be made available on the Web site (http://www.royfc.com/roy_pay.html).

Because I am not set up for selling abroad yet, the Beta Version is available for shipment by U.S. Mail ONLY to residents of the United States and Canada.  Once the final version is ready, shipment will begin to anyone permitted to use PayPal (residents of some countries still may not unless they have a credit card from a country with which PayPal does business) or to anyone who sends an International Money Order for the correct payment and shipping fees.

Those who purchase the Beta Version are asked to send feedback to Roy regarding any problems with the CD-ROM.  PLEASE REMEMBER:  The CD-ROM works ONLY with Microsoft Windows 95 and above and requires Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator to be enjoyed fully.  Please do not order it if you have a Mac.  (NOTE:  If you have a JPEG-capable DVD player, the JPEGs, and only the JPEGs, on the disc can be viewed on your television through the DVD player. There should be over 1,400 JPEG graphics on the Beta Verson disc, including drawings from different manuals.)

There will be only one disc in this shipment.  The finalized version will include two discs:  One for the basic disc, photos, drawings and text; and a second with videos.  There will be some video on the Beta Version so that users may test the interface.

I burn one CD at a time and print a label directly onto the CD.  The drying time for the label is at least 24 hours; therefore, shipment by U.S. Mail will take place within 10 days of your order.

To order, please go to http://www.royfc.com/roy_pay.html#beta and click on the “buy now” button.  Do not forget to enter your mailing address.

If you wish to send a check or money order, please make the check to me, Roy Cochrun, and send it to:
