As the Russian Federation defense ministry press service and
information management press secretary for the air force, Lieutenant Colonel
Vladimir Drik, said, a build-up of combat potential is planned in the
medium-term future owing to the technical improvement both of Tu-95MS and
Tu-160 strategic missile carriers and Tu-22M3 long-range missile-carrier
bombers.
Moreover, upgrade will be realized owing to the expansion of

First Airplane Created in Russian Federation Tested Further
Russian specialists will make flight tests in 2010 directed
at improving the new Yak-130 combat training airplane, the Interfax agency reported on 3 January
referring to an unnamed source in the defense industrial complex.
In particular, tests will be aimed at expanding capabilities for using weapons.
The airmen also will test extreme flight regimes and study the Yak-130's spin
characteristics. It is planned to finish the tests in a year's time.
The Yak-130 is the first airplane completely developed by Russia after
the break up of the USSR. Yakovlev Experimental Design Bureau specialists, included
in the Irkut corporation, created the aircraft. The Irkutsk Aviation Plant and the
Nizhniy Novgorod Sokol Aviation Plant produce these airplanes. The Italian company
Aermacchi originally was taking part in Yak-130 development, but the Russian
and Italian specialists were unable to overcome disagreements that arose. Therefore,
the Italians decided to create their own M-346 "Master" airplane, and
the Russians continued work on the Yak.
The Yak-130 lifted into the air for the first time in 1996, but after that,
specialists worked for many more years on the aircraft. Finally, in 2007,
Russia's air force commander-in-chief decided to use these airplanes. Soon the
Yak-130 has been selected as the basic airplane for primary and advanced
training of the Russian Federation air force's airmen. The air force has
ordered 62 Yaks, 3 of which already have been assembled. Moreover, Algiers
wants to buy 16 of the airplanes. They maintain at the Irkut corporation that
besides these firm orders, the company has potential buyers for 150 more
aircraft. Who these buyers are is not being specified.
